Things got from bad to worse for Travis Kelce and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday as they suffered a 26-9 loss to the lowly Tennessee Titans, who have been one of the worst teams in the NFL throughout the season. Entering Sunday’s Week 16 matchup, the Titans were 2-12. Their unexpected victory against a hapless Chiefs side marked just their third win in 2025.
Kelce was quiet in Sunday’s loss, finishing with just one catch for six yards. It was a non-bearing game for Kansas City, which had already been eliminated from playoff contention following its Week 15 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers. Nonetheless, it was still a brutal result for a Chiefs side that is set to miss the playoffs for the first time since 2014.
On Monday, Kelce dropped the latest episode of his "New Heights" podcast, which he hosts with his brother, Philadelphia Eagles icon Jason Kelce. For their special guest, they brought in Hollywood actor Paul Rudd, who is known as a long-time Chiefs fan.
One segment of the podcast is called "We Gotta Ask," in which the Kelce brothers pose compelling questions to their guests. It was Travis Kelce who kicked off the segment with a query about Rudd's Chiefs fandom. The four-time All-Pro tight end prefaced his question with an apology to the "Ant-Man" star.
"As a brother and as a Chiefs fan, I love you, I'm sorry," Kelce said. "But how are you feeling as a Chiefs fan right now?"
Kelce’s apology prompted a heartfelt response from Rudd, who said, "I'm thinking about you, brother."
Kelce revealed that Rudd had texted him amid the unfortunate turn of events for the Chiefs and their playoff hopes, and the 10-time Pro Bowler expressed his appreciation.
Rudd then explained why his loyalty to his beloved Chiefs remains as strong as ever.
"As a Chiefs fan, I am so happy to be a Chiefs fan," said the 56-year-old actor. "The joy and the memories and everything that the Chiefs have given me with my family, with my kid, it's been an embarrassment of riches. … You know what? This wasn't the year, but that's okay. I know it's tough.
"I'm excited for whoever does it for their fanbase, that they get to share the same kind of things that I got to share with my son for all three of those victories. And even the losses, you know, it's the best."
Rudd went on to say that he’s thinking about Patrick Mahomes amid his season-ending knee injury. "I'm wishing him a speedy recovery," said Rudd.
"I'm excited for some of the players to get maybe a little bit of a summer vacation," he continued. "I mean, my God, it's like you've played an extra season of football compared to everyone else. And so I'm like, 'Oh, good. You get a break, a chance to kind of rest up.'
"I'm not too, too upset."
Kelce replied by saying that he appreciates Rudd for "having that positive mindset."
The season is not over for the Chiefs just yet. They have two more games to play, starting with Thursday’s Christmas Day matchup against the Denver Broncos. Kelce and Co. close out the campaign with a Week 18 showdown on the road against the Las Vegas Raiders on Jan. 4.
