Travis Kelce Doesn’t Hesitate to Reveal His Goal for the 2025 NFL Season

The Kansas City Chiefs kicked off their mandatory minicamp on Tuesday, and—as expected—quarterback Patrick Mahomes and star tight end Travis Kelce were at the center of attention.

Reports circulated this offseason that Kelce had dropped 25 pounds, but he quickly shut that down when he spoke to the media for the first time this offseason.

While the weight-loss rumors aren’t true, Kelce admitted he’s in much better shape—something he made a priority after feeling like he let his teammates down with his week-to-week performance last season, including in the Super Bowl, where the Chiefs fell 40–22 to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now 35, Kelce made it clear what his focus is for the upcoming season—and for however long he decides to keep playing.

“I mean, I’ve got one year on this contract—I know that,” Kelce said. “We’ll try to figure out something for next year. The Chiefs organization knows how much I love them. I can’t see myself playing anywhere else… but right now, I’m focused on winning a championship this year.”

He added, “That’s the only way I determine whether it’s a success or not. It’s kind of just how I’m wired now.”

Last season, Kelce posted career lows in nearly every major statistical category—excluding his rookie year, when he didn’t record any stats. He finished the year with 97 receptions for 823 yards and just three touchdowns.

At this point in his career, Kelce has nothing left to prove at the NFL level. He’s already cemented himself as one of—if not the—greatest tight ends in league history, with three Lombardi Trophies to his name. Still, the urgency and passion are clearly there as he enters the final year of his deal with the Chiefs.
