The Chiefs will take on a familiar foe this week and, for the second straight year, they'll face them in odd circumstances. Last year, Kansas City played the Raiders on Christmas Day and lost in a surprising upset, 20-14. This year's it's not quite Christmas, but the Chiefs will see the Raiders on the day after Thanksgiving, also known as Black Friday.
And tight end Travis Kelce wants his bunch to be on their guard. Not just because the Raiders always get up to play against Kansas City, but because there's always weirdness when NFL games land on odd days.
This will be the second NFL game played on Black Friday. In last year's edition, between the Jets and the Dolphins, Miami defensive back Jevon Holland intercepted a Hail Mary pass from New York's Tim Boyle and returned it for a wild 99-yard touchdown.
Kelce used that play to signal to his teammates that they've got to be on their toes on Friday.
Speaking on the 'New Heights" podcast with his brother Jason Kelce, Travis Kelce said, "This is the type of (expletive) that happens on Black Fridays! We gotta come (expletive) ready, and we’ve got to come (expletive) prepared."
Kelce, who is sure to be a Hall of Famer as a tight end when he retires, had high praise for one of the best young tight ends to hit the league in a while, Raiders rookie Brock Bowers.
"As a rookie, that’s—I mean, he is one of the most accountable tight ends in the league right now. Guy in the pass game is absolutely killing it. He is just an all-around football player, I have heard great things about the big Bowers over there with the Raiders," Travis Kelce said.
Kickoff will be at 3 p.m. EST in Kansas City on Friday.
