The Pittsburgh Steelers are heading into the 2023 NFL Draft with nine picks. The Steelers are hoping to land some players that could tilt the scales in their favor next season. The team is building a roster around second-year quarterback Kenny Pickett in a competitive AFC North. Several mock drafts have come out on who the Steelers might take, but there are always surprises every year. Safety Tre Norwood recently wrote about his draft experience with the Steelers.
According to the Steelers website, Norwood didn’t assume Pittsburgh had an interest in him because they didn’t meet much in the pre-draft process:
“I didn’t really talk to the Steelers at my pro day. I had minimal contact with the Steelers through the process as a whole, except for the Senior Bowl where we meet with all teams. Other than that, I had very minimal contact with them during the process.
Because of that it did surprise me a bit I was drafted by them, but I wouldn’t change it at all. I’m very blessed and happy to have gotten that phone call from Coach (Mike) Tomlin on that day. At first it was kind of shocking, seeing the 412 area code pop up on my phone and it was Pittsburgh.”
This is the time of year when reports come out on teams visiting with prospects. But there’s a good chance the Steelers will take a player many analysts don’t think will be on their draft board.
