Social media plays many roles in today’s world. One entertaining aspect is the instant reactions from fans, writers and sometimes former players regarding a game or play. A Notre Dame alum, and former team captain, took to X during the recent loss to Texas A&M and shared his thoughts about new defensive coordinator Chris Ash.
Mike Goolsby was short and sweet with his reaction. But it also a reaction shared by many Irish fans after Notre Dame’s 0-2 start. While the two losses were only be a total of four points against No. 10 Miami (3-0) and No. 16 Texas A&M (3-0), the defense has given up 32 points per game. Last season the Irish only gave up 15.5 points per game, which was fifth best in the country.
If you aren’t familiar with Mike Goolsby, he played for the Irish from 2000 to 2004. While he missed the 2003 season with an injury, he excelled in 2002 and 2004 with a combined 172 tackles. He was one of the team captains during the 2004 season.
Notre Dame’s schedule eases up after their challenging start, but there will be plenty of questions regarding Ash’s hire and future with the Irish throughout the season.
