Veteran offensive tackle Trent Williams was notably absent from the only San Francisco 49ers practice open to reporters last week. While head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed that Williams reported for the start of the offseason program in April, he acknowledged the star lineman hadn't been around in recent weeks.
The 49ers officially kicked off organized team activities (OTAs) last week.
"He was here at the beginning of—not OTAs—Phase One," Shanahan said. "He hasn't been here in a couple of weeks, but expect to see him soon."
The media will have one more opportunity to observe practice this week—on Wednesday—and there's a possibility Williams could participate. On Tuesday, offensive line coach Chris Foerster confirmed to reporters that Williams has reported for OTAs.

It's important to note that all workouts before next week's mandatory minicamp are voluntary, so Williams' absence wasn't viewed as a significant concern by the team.
"He's been here periodically," general manager John Lynch said last week. "Trent knows how to get ready for a season. Again, Trent had a season marred and inhibited by injuries last year, and Trent is very prideful about, not just playing, but playing the type of quality football that he's accustomed to. He's always told me that he's not going to come out here and just be a guy.
"And so, I've got a good feeling that Trent's going to come out and have a really good season, provided he can stay healthy and all those things that every player has to go through. But Trent's putting in the work and you're always happy when he's on your offensive line, when he's on your team."
Williams, who turns 37 next month, has been a cornerstone of the 49ers' offensive front since the team acquired him in a 2020 trade. However, the veteran offensive lineman missed the final seven games of last season due to an ankle injury and looks to bounce back in 2025.
