Former Clemson great Trevor Lawrence might be the NFL’s golden boy with the golden locks—but is there a hidden curse tied to his flowing hair?
That’s the quirky question raised on a recent episode of Pardon My Take, Barstool’s flagship podcast, where hosts PFT Commenter and Big Cat pressed the Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback on a surprising stat: No long-haired quarterback has ever won a Super Bowl.
“Really? Never?” Lawrence asked in disbelief, eyebrows raised.
The hosts tossed out names—Joe Namath, Ben Roethlisberger—but admitted those guys only had “shaggy” or “half-long” hair at best. Trevor, known for his shoulder-length, shampoo-commercial-worthy mane, laughed and jokingly stood up from his seat after being asked what he thought about that info: “I’ll be right back… That’s a crazy stat.” Even NFL legend Tom Brady, after a Super Bowl loss to the New York Giants, famously shed his longer hairstyle for a fresh, short cut the very next season.
PFT teased him with the dilemma: “You could look at it one way or the other… cut your hair and win the Super Bowl… or break the curse.” But here’s the thing: the curse may already be broken.

Enter The Snake—Kenny Stabler. The legendary Oakland Raiders quarterback won Super Bowl XI in 1977, and if you’ve ever seen footage from that era, one thing stands out: Stabler’s unmistakable long hair spilling out from under his helmet. Multiple sources describe his flowing locks as iconic, and by all accounts, he rocked the same look Trevor Lawrence does today—just with more 70s grit.
So while Lawrence had fun with the long-haired quarterback curse on the show, he might not have to break it—just revive it. With the Jaguars continuing to improve and Lawrence entering his prime, the NFL could be one playoff run away from seeing another long-haired QB hoist the Lombardi.
