Trevor Lawrence shares advice for Panthers rookie QB Bryce Young
? Melina Myers-USA TODAY Sports | ? Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Trevor Lawrence is watching how Bryce Young adapts to the NFL with a keen eye.

The fellow first overall selection is rooting for the Carolina Panthers quarterback ahead of his NFL debut. Young will be forced to waltz into Atlanta and take on the Falcons, in what should be a tightly contested NFC South showdown.

While Lawrence is more focused on what the Jaguars are up to this season, he took some time to offer up some sound advice for Young, as the former Alabama Crimson Tide star readies for his first career start.

“I think it’s just managing those expectations, because what are expectations anyways?” Lawrence said, via Jaguars Wire. “It doesn’t really matter what people think you should do or you’re going to do, it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day. As long as the guys in the locker room trust and have faith in you and you keep getting better every day, I think that’s what success looks like.

“Obviously, it’s winning as many games as possible. It’s hard to say how many that’s going to be and you don’t know the set of obstacles that are going to be in front of you. You just have to go with that mindset everyday of getting better and not letting bad plays and bad games get in your head. Just continuing to turn the page over, learn from the good, learn from the bad, and continue growing.”

That’s some seriously great advice from Lawrence. The former Clemson star took a huge jump from Year 1 to Year 2, and it’s easy to see why. He simply gets it, and he has the coaching staff surrounding him now that can take him there.

One thing is for sure, it doesn’t seem as if Young will have to contend with the same struggles Lawrence did during his rookie season. The Jaguars hired Urban Meyer to lead the team prior to drafting the former Tigers star, and that went about as disastrous as a coaching tenure can go in the NFL.

Instead, Young has veteran quarterback whisperer Frank Reich leading the charge in Carolina, and that should work wonders for him. Jacksonville eventually got it right with Doug Pederson as their coach, but it took a waste of Lawrence’s rookie season to get there.

Time will tell how high Bryce Young can fly, but he’ll have Trevor Lawrence’s support, unless the duo is facing off on the field against each other, it seems.
