Extension talks reportedly are not going well between Bengals star Trey Hendrickson and the front office as training camp gets underway on Wednesday.
FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz noted on X that the "Last round of talks between Trey Hendrickson and the Bengals as 'very contentious' — and that it’s been a 'very difficult' negotiation all offseason long."
Monday sang a different tune from team president Mike Brown, expressing a rosier outlook on the negotiations.
“We aren’t going to trade Trey. We’re working to get Trey re-signed as we speak," Brown told the media. "Our guys are in the office working to get that done. And I think it will get done.”
Hendrickson isn't in Ohio, let alone reported to the Bengals as of this writing. The deadline to avoid a half decade of training camp distractions has passed with Cincinnati reportedly offering the NFL's leading sack artist a three-year contract (one guaranteed) at the buzzer.
Don't smash the code-red button yet, but it looks like Hendrickson will at least miss the start of camp in Al Golden's first season with a new system. It results in $50,000 per day missed in fines.
