Trick or Treat: Buccaneers’ Mid-Season Awards
Matthew Hinton-Imagn Images

Happy Halloween! It’s a day when people dress up and pretend to be something they’re not.

The Buccaneers have had a ghoulisih start to their season. You could say that they’ve been the Michael Meyers of the NFL. No matter how many times you try and kill them (through injuries) they just keep winning.
So, in keeping with the Halloween theme, I present my mid season awards.
The Freddy Krueger award goes to Charlie Heck. It’s awarded to him because everyone expected the Bucs to “fall asleep” and be haunted by having him in the lineup. Maybe he hasn’t been spectacular BUT what other options have the Bucs had at that position? The Jason award goes to Baker Mayfield. He just keeps coming back and has made more big play after big play with his arm and legs which have haunted his opponents. The Dracula award goes to Todd Bowles for finally winning a game in prime time. Their week 2 win at Houston has further emphasized just how far he’s come as a Head Coach. The Ghost in the machine award goes to Jamel Dean. He literally has come out of nowhere to lead the team in Interceptions, recorded his first sack and also caused a fumble. All this while take a pay reduction and splitting time with Benjamin Morrison. The I know what you did last summer award goes to Kevin Carberry.  I cannot imagine how difficult it must be to shuffle the Offensive Line and still provide Baker with enough time to throw the ball. Game one featured a complete overhaul of the left side of the line with our Center playing Guard and Guard playing Center. Obvious he worked hard at getting his players ready to play in case of emergency and it shows. And finally, the Misery award goes to SirVocea Dennis. Asking him to try and cover RBs coming out of the backfield has been a nightmare for Buc fans to watch. Overall this team has definitely been more “Treat” than “Trick!” I’m excited about what the 2nd half will bring.
