The Baltimore Ravens have major issues on both sides of the ball now that Lamar Jackson is nursing an injury, and some probably do not realize just how bad their defense has been in 2025.
The Ravens have been making the wrong kind of history amid their surprising 1-3 start to the season. They are coming off a 37-20 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, which marked the third time in four games that Baltimore has surrendered 37 or more points. The Ravens also lost 41-40 to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1 and 38-30 to the Detroit Lions in Week 3.
Historically, the Ravens have been known for having stout defenses. They have produced numerous Pro Bowl and All-Pro defensive players over the past two decades, but they are not headed down that path this season.
As ESPN's Adam Schefter notes, the three games allowing 35-plus points ties the record for most 35-point games allowed by a Ravens team in a single season.
Ravens already have allowed 35 points in three games this season, tying the most 35-point games allowed in a single season in team history.

That's right, an entire season.
Safety Kyle Hamilton, who has made the Pro Bowl twice in his first three NFL seasons, said prior to Sunday's loss that Ravens fans might be a bit "spoiled" because of how solid the team has been on defense in recent history. He then apologized for his comments after Baltimore was blown out by the Chiefs.
Things are not going to get much easier for the Ravens' defense, at least from a personnel standpoint. Defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike was placed on injured reserve prior to Week 4 with a neck injury and will miss the remainder of the season. All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith has also been sidelined with a hamstring injury, and Pro Bowl cornerback Marlon Humphrey has a calf injury that could cost him multiple games.
Jackson suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday that is expected to keep him out for multiple games. That leaves Cooper Rush in line to start against the Houston Texans in Week 5 and potentially beyond. The Ravens have a bye in Week 7.
Ravens defensive coordinator Zach Orr needs to find a way to patch up his unit, and he needs to do it in short order. Baltimore is allowing an NFL-worst 33.3 points per game and cannot afford to get into anymore shootouts with Jackson on the bench.
