Troy Aikman chastises Cowboys for misuse of WR CeeDee Lamb in loss to 49ers

If you think Dallas Cowboys fans are upset about how their team lost last weekend's wild-card matchup with the San Francisco 49ers, just wait until you hear what one of the team's former quarterback's had to say.

Hall of Fame QB Troy Aikman, who won three Lombardi Trophies with the Cowboys, joined 96.7 The Ticket in Dallas on Wednesday and did not mince words as he slammed his former team for not better utilizing star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb.

The second-year wideout had just one catch on five targets on Sunday while being defended in single coverage. He led the team through the season with 79 receptions for 1,102 yards and six touchdowns.

"The game is not that difficult," Aikman criticized. "If I've got a great player at wide receiver and a corner is playing him single coverage, throw him the ball. He's going to win most of the time."

Aikman knows a thing or two about connecting with a great wide receiver, having played with fellow Hall of Famer Michael Irvin -- a fact he pointed out during his radio appearance Wednesday.

"You're going to complete the pass whenever you want," Aikman said. "(Michael Irvin) would've had 10 catches at halftime if they played us the way they played CeeDee Lamb in that game."

Even with all that vitriol, Lamb's lack of receptions likely won't be what fans dwell on as Dallas' offseason gets off to an early start. Between Dak Prescott's postgame comments and the spotlight on Mike McCarthy's status as head coach, Aikman's criticism probably won't have much of a lasting impact.
