Aikman sounds very fed up with ESPN, so his chances of returning there appear to be very low. He could potentially broadcast for another network, though his options appear to be dwindling at this point.
That leaves the other 50 percent, which would be wide open to Aikman. There is the much-discussed possibility that he will wind up working for an NFL franchise, with one in particular gaining a lot of traction. That, however, remains purely speculative.
Aikman has been a commentator since 2001, first at FOX and then at ESPN. He is clearly fit for a No. 1 booth, but that simply might not be available to him in 2027.
