Troy Aikman thinks Aaron Rodgers may have played his final NFL game following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ playoff exit.
Troy Aikman believes we may have seen the last of Aaron Rodgers in the NFL after his latest disappointment at the hands of the Houston Texans.
The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, now 42 years old, had a rough night against the Texans, as the Steelers were knocked out of the NFL Playoffs.
Speaking during ESPN’s broadcast of Pittsburgh’s 30–6 playoff loss to the Houston Texans, Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman said he doesn’t expect Aaron Rodgers to return for another season.
Aikman, calling the AFC wild-card game, said on air that he felt confident this would mark the end of Rodgers’ career.
“I think we are watching Aaron Rodgers’ last game. He might be willing to come in at some point if a team needs a QB.
“I doubt that will happen. I don’t imagine he’s going to say he wants to come back and sign with the Steelers again or with another team.”
Rodgers had a tough night on the field, completing 17 of 33 passes for 146 yards and throwing a late interception that was returned for a touchdown.
Cameras followed him as he left Acrisure Stadium, adding to speculation that it could have been his final NFL appearance.
Aaron Rodgers had signed a one-year, $13.65 million deal with the Steelers before the 2025 NFL season, after an ill-fated stint with the New York Jets.
Although the team posted a winning record, the offense struggled with inconsistency throughout the year. The Steelers might be open to Rodgers returning for another season — but the decision appears to rest with the quarterback.
Aikman pointed out that after 21 seasons, it may come down to whether Rodgers feels up to another year.
The four-time MVP said last July that he was “pretty sure” he would retire after this season, and that uncertainty now seems even more real.
Whether fans have truly seen the last of Rodgers remains to be seen. For now, Aikman’s comments echo a growing belief that one of the game’s greatest quarterbacks may have just played his final snap.
