Troy lands in-state tight end

The Troy University Trojans added their third in-state prospect Thursday with a commitment from Nick Hampton.

Hampton attends Gulf Shores High School in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Nick could not be more excited about his future at Troy.

“They have a great culture,” Hampton said. “The coaches are great, and I feel I can get developed into the best player I can be. Throughout the recruiting process, they maintained communication and transparency with me. They made me a priority and that meant a lot to me.”

Hampton says Troy’s tight ends’ coach Kevin Reihner played a huge role in securing his commitment.

“It is not about the school that wants you but the one that needs you,” Hampton told Touchdown Alabama. “Troy consistently communicated and remained dedicated to securing my commitment. I remembered that throughout the process when making my decision. Coach Reihner came to see me numerous times. He and I are really close. We have remained in contact almost daily throughout the process. He plans to utilize my skill set in the passing game. I am faster than most linebackers and bigger than most safeties.”

Hampton is optimistic about the future of Troy with the Trojans’ plans to upgrade their facilities in the future. 

“They are building a new 100-yard indoor practice facility,” said Hampton. “The Locker rooms and meeting rooms are very nice. They also just built a new health facility.”

At 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, Hampton is a receiving threat all over the football field as a big and physical target. He is also effective in the RedZone with his ability to box out defenders for the football. The Gulf Shores product also has no problem being a physical blocker in the run game. 

The Trojans’ newest commit is now ready to work. 

“I am ready to get to work,” Hampton said. “I will give it my all. Go Trojans.”
