The NFL is breaking new ground, and the Miami Dolphins, led by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, are at the forefront of this historic moment.

The league announced on X that the Dolphins will face off against the Washington Commanders in Madrid, Spain, marking the league’s first-ever regular-season game in the country.

Set to take place at the iconic Santiago Bernabeu Stadium—home to soccer giant Real Madrid—this matchup promises to blend American football’s intensity with Spain’s passionate sports culture.

The NFL presented the Dolphins as the designated home team earlier this year, a fitting choice given their vibrant fanbase in Spain.

“We are thrilled to play the NFL's inaugural game in Spain, a country of rich history, tradition, and passion,” said Tom Garfinkel, Dolphins’ vice chairman, president, and CEO, in a statement.

The game underscores the league’s ongoing mission to expand its global footprint, following international games in London, Mexico City, and Frankfurt.

For the former Alabama quarterback Tagovailoa, this game offers a chance to shine on an international stage.

Despite the Dolphins’ recent 8-9 season and a 2-5 record in international games, including a 2023 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Frankfurt, Germany, Tagovailoa’s leadership will be key.

Fans in Madrid are eager to witness his playmaking ability firsthand, and see if he can deliver a jaw-dropping international performance.

As the NFL brings its high-octane action to Spain, this historic clash will be a celebration of football’s growing global appeal—and a chance for the Dolphins to make a statement.
