Tua Tagovailoa made headlines in his postgame press conference after the Miami Dolphins suffered a gut-wrenching 29-27 defeat against the Los Angeles Chargers. With the team morale appearing to be at an all-time low, Tagovailoa was asked how he can keep this team from having a “woe is me mentality.” The route he decided to take was very bold, and in the process, he called out leadership and teammates who are not showing up to player-only meetings.

This set the media on fire, as every channel you turned to was talking about Tagovailoa’s comments. Although an apology was made, those words will stick forever, and players in Miami made it clear they did not appreciate those remarks.

Tua Tagovailoa Was Left Hung To Dry By Teammates And Head Coach

When head coach Mike McDaniel was questioned about Tagovailoa’s statement, he voiced different thoughts and actually supported his players.

“From my standpoint, everything I’ve asked of guys, they’ve delivered on. And so, I’m sure whoever he’s talking to, they’ll deliver.”

Firstly, to state that the guys have delivered on what has been demanded is highly, questionable given that the team is 1-5. The fact that McDaniel has kept his job even with this horrid start is another one of many issues the Dolphins have. With that being said, McDaniel tipped the iceberg of voicing that Tagovailoa is on his own in this instance, and key players also echoed that same sentiment.

One of those players happened to be another team captain, Aaron Brewer. The stance he ended up taking was that certain statements need to be kept behind closed doors and not shared with the media.

“Things that happen within the team should stay within the team.”

Left tackle Patrick Paul basically repeated what Brewer said and wished this wasn’t a public headline.

“I try to keep that stuff out of the media. I think that should be handled internally.”

The last people to have against you are your top offensive linemen. Even if Tagovailoa made it known he was in the wrong, who knows what he might say next if the team keeps losing. Most of the media attention will be given to the highest-paid player on the team. Given the backlash being faced, Tagovailoa has to tread carefully on what is said next, knowing this team is close to implosion.

Jaelan Phillips’ Stance Confirms The Team Is Anything But Together

With almost everyone voicing how Tagovailoa is in the wrong, Jaelan Phillips decided to take a different approach and took no issue with what was said.

“Anybody who’s mad about him [Tagovailoa] calling people out for being late really is a kind of if the shoe fits type situation. Like, you can’t really be mad at something that’s their fault in the first place.”

That sounds very different from what his other teammates said to the media, and it wouldn’t be shocking if there were other players who agree with what Phillips said. This just goes to show that the Dolphins are a team that the locker room is nowhere near in sync with one another.

Not everyone is going to agree with certain philosophies and statements made, but what makes this situation worse is that everyone knows how bad the vibes are in Miami. Each comment made by the players showcases the different stances that are being taken on key matters, and that is not a good sign.

End Of My Tua Tagovailoa Rant

It’s clear that Tagovailoa is sick and tired of how troubled this team is. What seems to be the most intriguing part of this all is that there seems to be a clear disconnect between the head coach and quarterback. This was once a duo that seemed tight and were always seen lifting each other up and speaking nothing but positive things about one another. That relationship now seems deteriorated, and no team can succeed when two important figures in the team are not seeing eye-to-eye.

The Dolphins can talk all they want about trying to turn the season around, but everyone knows that change is needed within the organization, and it’s only a matter of time until that bomb is finally detonated.
