The NFL’s crackdown on celebrations continues, and Baker Mayfield and Bucky Irving are the latest to face fines. The Bucs duo was penalized for their “nose wipe” celebration, deemed a “violent gesture” by the league. Mayfield was fined $14,491, while Irving received a $6,349 fine.

Baker Mayfield and Bucky Irving, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ dynamic duo, were fined by the NFL for their “nose-wiping” celebration after Irving’s touchdown against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 13. The “nose wipe” is deemed a “violent gesture” under NFL rules, resulting in fines of $6,349 for Irving and $14,491 for Mayfield, as it was his second offense.

Via the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero,

“The NFL fined five players for “violent gestures” in Week 13 — including Baker Mayfield ($14,491) and Bucky Irving ($6,349) for this “nose wipe” celebration.”

The NFL’s ban on the “nose wipe” celebration means players could face a 15-yard penalty if flagged during a game, potentially giving the opposing team a crucial first down. This seems like a significant consequence for a relatively harmless gesture, especially since it’s often used as a celebratory move.

The BR Rub

Look, i get the throat slash celebration being banned, but this one is silly. Wiping your nose isn’t a violent act. Nor does it suggest a violent act other than having a runny nose. The NFL is just so lame for this.
