Two candidates emerge for Titans assistant GM under Mike Borgonzi
USA TODAY Sports

Two long-time NFL personnel candidates have emerged as possible assistant general managers under new Tennessee Titans GM Mike Borgonzi. Tennessee announced Borgonzi, formerly of the Kansas City Chiefs, as the 15th general manager in franchise history last Friday.

The Titans fired former general manager Ran Carthon at the end of the 2024 regular season.

Titans assistant general manager names to know

Dave Ziegler is definitely a name to keep an eye on as Borgonzi and President of Football Operations Chad Brinker look to build out their scouting staff.

Ziegler has been with the New Orleans Saints for the last year as a personnel advisor after being fired as GM of the Las Vegas Raiders. Ziegler, 46, did not last two full seasons in Vegas after being hired in 2022 and relieved of his duties in 2023. New Orleans general manager Micky Loomis brought Ziegler in last year to help lead their personnel department.

Ziegler has reportedly been heavily involved in the Saints current search for a new head coach after the club fired Dennis Allen on Nov. 4.

Prior to his brief stint with the Raiders, Ziegler spent 11 years with the New England Patriots in various roles. He served as New England's assistant director of pro scouting (2013-15), director of pro personnel (2016-20) assistant director of player personnel (2020), and director of player personnel (2021). Ziegler first entered the league as a player personnel assistant (2010) and scout (2011-12) with the Denver Broncos.

Jim Nagy, current Executive Director of the Reese’s Senior Bowl, is also a person of interest and known associate of Borgonzi.

Nagy has overseen both football and business operations for the Senior Bowl since 2018. Prior to taking over the the most famous pre-draft All-Star game, Nagy spent 18 years as an NFL scout for the Washington Commanders (2001-02), New England Patriots (2002-09) and Seattle Seahawks (2009-13). Nagy first entered the league as an intern for the Green Bay Packers in 1996.

Nagy also interviewed for the New York Jets general manager position last month and had interest in the same role with Tennessee. The Titans did not include Nagy in their initial list of 10 candidates for the position.

"Please explain how Chiefs AGM Mike Borgonzi hasn’t gotten GM interview past two hiring cycles," wrote Nagy on Twitter in February of 2023. "Shared same title (Co-DPP) w/ Brett Veach before he got GM job and has been No. 2 in KC’s FO for two Super Bowls. Who’s helping owners put together their “lists”? Make it make sense."

We will see how the Tennessee's front office under Borgonzi begins to take shape in the coming weeks.
