This sets up a reunion between the Falcons and former quarterback Marcus Mariota, who performed quite well in Daniels’ spot during the Commanders Week 3 win over the Raiders.
Mariota led Washington to 41 points and 400 yards of offense, accounting for 247 combined yards and a couple of touchdowns. He’ll surely be hyped to compete against his former team, especially with how that marriage ended.
Daniels won’t be the only key piece missing from the Commanders this Sunday, though. Star wide receiver Terry McLaurin has also been ruled out with a quad injury, and rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt is listed as questionable. Although, he practiced on Friday and the feeling is that he will play.
This was already a game the Falcons had to win. With the Bills and 49ers looming following the bye week, Atlanta cannot afford a 1-3 start. Now, with a significant health advantage, a loss would have everybody questioning the trajectory of the organization under the current regime.
