Ever since Jeff Stoutland came to the City of Brotherly Love in 2013, the offensive line for the Philadelphia Eagles has been an absolute factory. The 2024 unit was arguably the best we've ever seen for the Eagles, and one of the best we've ever seen in the NFL as a whole. Where they rank in either category is a conversation for another day, as fun as it may be.
The point is that the mixture of unreal talent and unreal coaching has been the recipe for this success. Perpetually using draft resources to retool and reload the offensive line as been the biggest machine that powers this factory.
The 2025 Draft was no different, and the Eagles brought in two second-generation big uglies to Jeff Stoutland University.
With their third and final pick in the fifth round, the Eagles selected interior offensive lineman Drew Kendall out of Boston College. A center in college, Kendall has the ability to kick out and play guard, and the Eagles' official roster lists him as such with a "C/G" designation. His father, Pete, was a 13-year veteran of the NFL at guard, and coincidentally, also played some center. While he never made the Pro Bowl, he was a solid starter, primarily with the Seattle Seahawks. Given that the Eagles currently have a vacancy at the starting right guard spot, it'll be interesting to see how Kendall does in training camp.
He isn't the only legacy lineman flying to the nest though.
The Eagles also selected tackle Myles Hinton out of Michigan with their second of four sixth round picks. Hinton won a national championship with the Wolverines in 2023, despite losing his starting job about halfway into that season (his new quarterback can somewhat relate). Hinton bounced back though with a strong 2024 season.
Myles' father, Chris, is perhaps best known as the guy who was essentially traded for John Elway on Draft Day 1983, and also the centerpiece in a package for the number one overall pick in the 1990 Draft, which was Jeff George. That may be a little unfair, considering Chris Hinton was a seven-time Pro Bowl selection, a first-team All-Pro in 1993, and a second-team All-Pro in 1985 and 1989, and a borderline Hall of Famer. The Eagles would be thrilled if Myles turned into Chris, or even a fraction of him.
It's also worth noting that the Eagles also selected tackle Cameron Williams out of Texas with their third sixth-round pick, who also has the potential to make noise in training camp in his own right.
Jeff Stoutland University continues to power the Philadelphia Eagles, and new additions are always going to garner attention, especially in this city. These two rookie sons of NFL veterans should garner extra attention, and it'll be fun to see how they fare.
