Two NFL Teams Make 'Most Sense' For Kirk Cousins

As the Falcons wait to find a deal to unload Kirk Cousins, one NFL insider believes two teams would make the most sense.

Cousins was benched by Atlanta last year after a really rough second-half stretch where he threw just one touchdown to nine interceptions and the team went 1-4.

It was Cousins' first season coming back from an Achilles tear at age 36, so there was definitely some rust to knock off. But it was still a bit concerning considering the young talent he had around him.

Cousins' days are obviously numbered in ATL. But there are a pair of franchises in the AFC North that ProFootballTalk's Mike Florio sees being a real possibility to land the four-time Pro Bowler.

"In four weeks, we'll all know whether one or more teams will still be looking for a starting quarterback. At this point, however, the universe seems to be fairly small. It consists of two possibilities: the Steelers and the Browns," he wrote.

"The Browns make more sense than the Steelers, for a couple of reasons," Florio explained. "First, coach Kevin Stefanski spent two years with Cousins in Minnesota. And Stefanski parlayed a final-eight season from Cousins into the job Stefanski now has. Second, Cousins has a low salary for a veteran starter — and the Browns could instantly restructure his $27.5 million, creating nearly $21 million in cap space."

The Steelers still very much have their eyes on Aaron Rodgers, who owner Art Rooney Jr. says all signs are "pointing in the direction" that the future Hall of Famer lands in Pittsburgh.

Of course, there's always the off-chance the Falcons could always keep Cousins as Michael Penix's highly-paid backup. But as it stands right now, there only appear to be a couple of options in the QB's Choose Your Own Adventure book.
