Two teams emerging as trade suitors for Jets QB Zach Wilson

The New York Jets have granted quarterback Zach Wilson permission to explore potential trade opportunities, with two teams emerging as possible destinations for the former No. 2 overall draft pick.

According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams have emerged as potential landing spots for Wilson.

Both teams are reportedly in the market for a backup quarterback, and Wilson is seeking an opportunity to develop under an experienced offensive head coach in hopes of revitalizing his career. Coaches such as Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay are seen as ideal fits for Wilson’s aspirations.

Despite being drafted second overall, Wilson’s performance in three seasons with the Jets has left much to be desired, casting doubts on his ability to lead a team as a starting quarterback. Nevertheless, there’s typically a willingness within the league to take chances on highly drafted players, even if the return for the Jets may not be substantial.

This scenario could be advantageous for both the Niners and Rams, who are seeking depth at the quarterback position.

During his tenure with the Jets, Zach Wilson has appeared in 34 games, completing 57% of his passes for 6,293 yards, 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions.

Should Wilson find a new team, it’s unlikely that he would be immediately thrust into a starting role unless unforeseen circumstances arise with the team’s current starter.
