There are two teams in the hunt for a new quarterback in 2025. Both could decide to draft a signal-caller in April, but there's also a Super Bowl-winning veteran sitting right there on the trade block if they wanted to make a move on him.
The Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants have emerged from the ashes of their lackluster 2024 regular season and are now the front runners to land Matthew Stafford in a trade deal with the Los Angeles Rams.
As the days and weeks have gone by since the Rams were ousted from the playoffs, the narrative has shifted back and forth about whether the Rams would want to keep Stafford or cut a deal with someone else to ship him out of Los Angeles.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Giants and Raiders have ' significant interest' in Stafford.
Both the Giants and the Raiders have a gaping hole in their depth charts at the quarterback position, but they have fairly talented targets who need a little more development from an experienced quarterback.
However, neither team is anywhere close to hoisting a Lombardi trophy in 2025, which could be a deal breaker.
With these teams having mutual interest, as Russini said in her post on X, the Rams could "drive up the asking price if they decide to move him. "
The Giants and the Raiders also have high draft picks that you can be certain the Rams are very aware of. The G-Men hold the No. 3 overall pick in April, and the Raiders own the No. 6 pick.
Stafford reportedly wants a salary of at least $50 million on his next contract.
The question now emerges whether either the Giants or Raiders are willing to give up that first-round pick for Stafford.
Time will tell, but the Stafford sweepstakes sure have heated up this week.
