Tyler Guyton To Remain Cowboys’ Starting LT

But Guyton has rallied at training camp to retain his starting job on Dak Prescott‘s blind side. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer said on Tuesday (via Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News) that Guyton had won the competition over 2024 UDFA Nathan Thomas.

Guyton, 25, was named the starting left tackle as a rookie, but found himself on the bench towards the end of the season. He allowed six sacks and earning a 49.4 grade from Pro Football Focus (subscription required) that ranked ninth-worst among starting offensive tackles. Last year, he showed some improvements in the run game and cut his penalty count from 18 to seven, but his pressure rate jumped from 6.5% in 2024 to 8.1% in 2025. Guyton also missed seven games due to injury, including the last six contests of the season as the result of an ankle injury that landed him on injured reserve.

That performance was not enough to be guaranteed a starting job for the following year, but the Cowboys did not invest in their offensive tackle room this offseason, signaling some lingering confidence in Guyton. His only serious competition for the left tackle gig was Thomas, a 2024 UDFA who struggled greatly in his four starts last year. His 31.6 pass blocking grade was dead-last among tackles with at least 150 snaps last year, and his 39.2 overall grade ranked second-worst in the same group.

In other Cowboys news, Dallas will be without tight end Princeton Fant for the entire 2026 season due to ACL and MCL tears suffered during training camp, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. The 2023 UDFA made the 53-man roster as a special teams contributor in 2024, but was relegated to the practice squad last year with just one game day elevation during the season. He was competing for a backend roster spot with undrafted rookie Michael Trigg, who now has a much easier path to regular-season playing time.
