Mathieu takes shot at Chiefs after Adams' record-breaking deal
Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu is entering a contract year and would like to receive a lucrative extension from the two-time defending AFC champions.

While Honey Badger is in camp and preparing for the 2021 regular season, the All-Pro performer seemingly isn’t happy about his current contract.

That came to light after news of Jamal Adams receiving a four-year, $70 million extension from the Seattle Seahawks broke on Tuesday.

Tyrann Mathieu took to social media to voice his opinion on said contract. In the process, it seems like he took a swing at the Chiefs.

Mathieu, 29, is currently playing under a three-year, $42 million deal he signed with Kansas City back in March of 2019. That average of $14 million per season is well below Adams is earning in his new deal with Seattle.

Could things get ugly between Tyrann Mathieu and the Kansas City Chiefs?

All Honey Badger has done in two seasons with the Chiefs is record a combined 137 tackles, 21 passes defended and 10 interceptions. He’s earned two All-Pro honors, helping lead Kansas City to back-to-back Super Bowl appearances.

It’s rather clear that the former Arizona Cardinals mid-round pick feels disrespected as it relates to extension negotiations with the Chiefs’ organization. He’s one of our top NFL free agents of 2022 and should get paid like it. If not, this marriage might not last beyond the 2021 season.
