Earlier today, the Las Vegas Raiders began trimming down their roster after an initial series of cuts. However, that isn’t all. General manager Dave Ziegler clearly has been busy today. The team has agreed to trade defensive back Tyree Gillespie to the Tennessee Titans today. While the word hasn’t been given on what the Raiders will receive in exchange, it’s expected to be a late-round pick.
Initially Tweeted out by Aaron Wilson of Pro Football Network, the news has surprised some, while others saw the writing on the wall.

A defensive back out of Missouri, Gillespie appeared in 11 games last season. His stat sheet doesn’t exactly stand out, but fans had hoped he’d get things going under Patrick Graham. Regrettably, with a new regime in place, the typical situation is that the previous brain trust’s draft picks aren’t beholden to the new one. Of course, there are exceptions, but clearly, Gillespie didn’t do enough to separate himself.
Raider Nation is never shy about voicing their opinion, and you can bet they are doing so right now. Here’s what they’re saying right now on Twitter, for example.
