Tyree Wilson promises to ‘continue to get better’

For Tyree Wilson, 2025 has all the makings of a make-or-break year for his NFL future.

The seventh overall pick in the 2023 Draft, Wilson’s first two seasons in the NFL have been a mixed bag. Despite showing flashes of his raw potential, it has never seemed to shine through on a consistent basis. With only eight sacks to his credit so far, Wilson was going to have to improve to impress a new coaching staff and front office.

Fortunately for the Las Vegas Raiders, Wilson is playing like a man who knows exactly what the stakes are for him.

The progress made by Wilson this offseason suggest a breakout is coming.

After Wednesday’s training camp session, Wilson spoke about how he has improved in his game.

“I mean, y’all watch the tape, just like I do,” Wilson said on Wednesday, via the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “I feel like I’m playing faster, way more fluid than I have been before. And it’s going to continue to get better.”

If there was ever a time for Wilson to prove he can make an impact at the NFL level, this is the season to do it.

With the sudden release of defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, Wilson has been called upon to kick inside in certain situations. The idea of using him as a defensive tackle to create mismatches is interesting, as Wilson’s mix of length and athleticism is unique to that position. From what he has showcased so far, the opportunity for increased playing time is there and, by proxy, increased production.

“We’ve called on him in a number of ways to keep going, keep pushing,” Raiders head coach Pete Carroll said on Wednesday. “We’re really trying to make sure that we put him in the right spots that take advantage of his skills and his comfort and so that he can play at his best.”

A third-year breakout would be an ideal scenario for both Wilson and the Raiders, ensuring the talented defensive lineman a place in the emerging young core for years to come.
