Tyreek Hill Announces Decision On Racing Noah Lyles

Tyreek Hill hasn't forgotten about plans to race Noah Lyles.

Last summer, the Miami Dolphins wide receiver engaged with the track star in a war of words on social media. Hill agreed to race the Olympic gold medalist, but they never set an official date.

On Wednesday, Hill told reporters he has a "trial race" in Los Angeles on June 13. The 31-year-old insisted he's getting in shape to race Lyles.

During the 2024 Summer Olympics, Hill questioned the legitimacy of a positive COVID test that derailed Lyles' efforts to win the 200-meter sprint. He also criticized the 100-meter winner's prior remarks about NBA champions calling themselves "world champions" after winning a league that isn't worldwide.

In August, Lyles told Shannon Sharpe and Chad Johnson that Hill was "chasing clout." He claimed he would race the Pro Bowler.

"If you're seriously about it, you'll see me on the track," Lyles said.

Hill responded to a clip from that podcast by urging Lyles to "sign the contract and lock in that 50-yard race." After winning his fourth straight 60-meter final at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix on Feb. 2, Lyles held up a sign that said, "Tyreek could never."

Less than two weeks later, Lyles and Hill told PEOPLE that they'll race each other in the spring or summer.

"This has been an ongoing thing for quite some time now, and I mean, everybody's seen the back and forth on social media," Hill said. "I've been very adamant to show people what real, true speed looks like."

Hill said Wednesday that he's slimmed down to 183 pounds, closer to his playing weight with the Kansas City Chiefs. He said training to race Lyles "for sure" motivated him.

Next month's tune-up won't interfere with Hill's work schedule, as the Dolphins conclude their third and final day of mandatory minicamp on June 12. Perhaps that's why he never informed head coach Mike McDaniel of his plans.

"What?" McDaniel asked when pressed about Hill racing Lyles. "I have no idea, nor do I care ... As long as he doesn't train to be a sprinter and he's running routes while he's doing it, that's cool."
