Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill spent much of his 2025 season with the Miami Dolphins sidelined. Due to suffering a season-ending left knee injury, he appeared in just four games, racking up 21 receptions for 265 yards and one touchdown, all of which are career lows.
He quickly became a casualty of the Dolphins' rebuild under new head coach Jeff Hafley and general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan. Hill was one of several players Miami has cut once the season wrapped up, joined by quarterback Tua Tagovailoa , EDGE Bradley Chubb and offensive lineman James Daniels. However, for the first time in his career, the eight-time Pro Bowler is a free agent.
While 2025 was a disappointment, he is considered to be one of the top wide receiver options in the open market. Fox Sports' Greg Auman predicts that Hill will sign with the Los Angeles Chargers, who are coming off a wild-card round loss to the New England Patriots.
"Hill's physical recovery could complicate his market, as it's still unknown when he'll be able to return to action," Auman wrote. "Teams must decide how likely it is that they'll get anything close to his 2023 production, when he led the NFL in receiving yards. Could he land with Mike McDaniel and the Chargers? Los Angeles has been linked to veteran receivers early in free agency."
With no extension in place, Keenan Allen is set to officially become a free agent on Wednesday. He was one of Justin Herbert's most trusted targets in 2025 with 81 receptions for 777 yards and four touchdowns.
Hill could serve as a replacement if Allen signs elsewhere. He would also ease pressure off Ladd McConkey, who, after an impressive rookie season in 2024 with 1,149 yards, took a step back in year two with 789 yards.
While Hill may not be the same player who led the NFL in receiving yards in 2023, he is just 32 years old and not expected to be a long-term commitment. Spotrac projects he will sign a two-year, $30 million contract, easing some risk for the Chargers.
