Going into a contract year, Chicago Bears defensive back Tyrique Stevenson is looking to prove the doubters wrong. After an impressive first season, Stevenson had a rough sophomore campaign, headlined by his lack of awareness on the Hail Mary play in Washington.

From that point on, Stevenson’s career headed in the wrong direction. He’s struggled since that moment and questions arose in terms of his overall future with the franchise. While last season wasn’t awful for Stevenson, he did fall behind a bit in the pecking order.

Stevenson’s snap counts were reduced as the season went on. But now in 2026, Stevenson has a new approach to the offseason.

Tyrique Stevenson reveals new approach to offseason with Chicago Bears

It was just a few weeks ago when defensive backs coach Al Harris revealed that he is seeing a “new” Stevenson with how he’s approaching this offseason in a contract year. But other than a few details, we didn’t know much about that approach.

That is until Wednesday when Stevenson met the media and revealed an interesting detail about his approach.

“I would say it’s more of just honing in on the small details in my game,” Stevenson said. “Playing corner, you give up certain things, you’re not good at certain things, so I’m just trying to come in after every practice and hone in on the small details. I ask most of the offensive coaches, ‘if you had to go at me, what do you see?’, and so I just think my attention to detail is just being a little bit more paid attention to, and it’s making the coaches happy.”

Stevenson is spending time trying to figure out how other offenses would attack him. It makes sense in terms of trying to hone in on his craft and make sure he’s doing what he needs to do. While he wouldn’t give it all away, he did mention one detail he’s been working on.

“It was nothing specific,” Stevenson said. “I would say probably the biggest thing was just staying focused, staying locked in on the small details and making sure that every time I step on the field, it’s with a purpose.”

That’s important for Stevenson as there is a chance to earn a lot of playing time this season.
