Tyrod Taylor Designated for Return from IR
USA TODAY Sports

As was widely anticipated, New York Giants quarterback Tyrod Taylor has been designated to return from injured reserve after sitting out a minimum of four weeks following a rib cage injury.

Taylor was initially injured in the first half of the team's overtime loss to the New York Jets. He was taken to a local hospital for overnight observation before finally being released. He was placed on injured reserve shortly thereafter, with the expectation that he would eventually be able to return this season.

Before his injury, Taylor had been the Giants starting quarterback following the season-ending ACL injury suffered by Daniel Jones. However, third-string quarterback Tommy DeVito, an undrafted rookie free agent who had spent most of the season on the practice squad until Jones's injury woes began, has played well in both quarterbacks' absences, logging a 2-1 record as a starter thanks to wins over the Commanders and Patriots.

DeVito, who was also voted "Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week" in Week 11, is currently 66 of 105 (62.9 percent) for 697 yards, seven touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 92.4 quarterback rating--stats which would probably make it difficult to warrant a change at this point if Taylor is indeed ready t be added to the active roster.'

The one major glitch in DeVito's game is that, at times, he holds the ball too long, resulting in sacks--28 of them, to be exact. However, he's been pristine with his ball security when under duress.

The Giants must clear a roster spot for Taylor if he's ready to return from IR. The move likely won't happen until later in the week as the Giants have an extra day of practice this week, thanks to their next game being a Monday night home affair against the Green Bay Packers.
