The University of North Carolina made a splashy hire when they finalized a deal to make Bill Belichick the new head coach of the football program.

Belichick agreed to a five-year deal to be the new head coach at UNC, a move that has shocked so many people in the football community.

Lawrence Taylor, the greatest player in UNC history, is fired up about it. He was texting with Gary Myers and told him that he "absolutely" loves the hire and has been talking to him about it the last couple of days.

"That's all we been doing the last couple of days," Taylor said.

This is Belichick's first coaching job since he and the Patriots parted ways after the 2023 season. He was with them for over two decades and helped them win six Super Bowls before the two sides came to a mutual understanding.

He spent this season doing a lot of media, especially with the "Pat McAfee Show." He'd be on the program once a week discussing the latest news around the NFL.

This is a big hire for UNC after the school let go of Mack Brown after the program finished this year with a 6-6 record. It was a step down from last year when UNC went 8-5.

Belichick will have to recruit players to UNC and also be good at finding players through the portal and be competitive with NIL. The NIL part shouldn't be a problem since the school has some big donors.

He'll try and turn the program around when the 2025 season starts in late August.
