Undrafted free agent signings to watch at Seattle Seahawks NFL Rookie Minicamp who could surprise this season
Morgan Tencza-USA TODAY Sports

NFL rookie minicamps are already here! The Seattle Seahawks are one of the first NFL teams kicking off their rookie minicamp this weekend May 3-5. All of their draft picks will obviously get the majority of the attention this weekend, but general manager John Schneider signed several intriguing undrafted free agents that could surprise this season as well.

It's always difficult for undrafted free agents to make an instant impact on NFL teams, let alone make the team at all, but there are always a few that stand out enough to overcome the odds. Let's dive into some of the top undrafted free agent signings who might just begin their epic NFL story this week at Seahawks rookie minicamp!

Nelson Ceaser, EDGE Houston

The Seahawks are in need of some pass rushing help. Only Boye Mafe surpassed a 10% pass rush pressure rate last season, despite several other edge defenders on the team having some nice physical traits. Nelson Ceaser averaged near a 13% pass rush pressure rate for his career at Houston and racked up 10 sacks just last season. He was certainly one of the most overlooked edge players in the class. If he does well at rookie minicamp and this summer Ceaser could work his way into the pass rush rotation early.

Garret Greenfield, OT South Dakota State

South Dakota State has become the premier program in all of FCS football and Garret Greenfield logged over 3200 snaps for them, playing both left and right tackle. In fact he is the only offensive lineman in this entire class with well over 1400 snaps at both tackle spots. He should slide in as the perfect swing tackle if he can prove himself early. Based on his impressive $195,000 in total salary guarantees already, the Seahawks are clearly rather bullish on his future.

George Holani, RB Boise State

George Holani was supposed to be so good. He started off his college career posting over 1,200 yards from scrimmage back in 2019. But then for two straight seasons he fought with injuries, missing a total of 14 games, and playing through injury in a few more. He finally stayed healthy in 2022 and put up another 1,300-yard season, at which point he should have entered the draft. Instead he was overshadowed by his special teammate Ashton Jeanty, who stole the show at times.

Holani will have to push to make the active roster, but even if he doesn't immediately, there's a great chance he snags a practice squad spot. When completely healthy he is an incredible player.

Aaron Beasley, LB Tennessee

The Seahawks had a real linebacker depth issue coming into the offseason and still do. Tyrel Dodson and Jerome Baker should be fine bandaids but the Seahawks need to get younger and faster at the position. Beasley is a bit undersized, but his movement skills and versatility make him one of the most interesting undrafted free agents in the class. There's a real shot for him to earn a roster spot as the team's fifth off-ball linebacker.

Dee Williams, PR/KR Tennessee

With the new NFL's kickoff rules coming into effect this season many teams are bringing in some extra fire power in the return game. Dee Williams played a little wide receiver and defensive back in his time with the Tennessee Volunteers, but he added his best value on special teams as a returner. He ran back two punt return touchdowns on 36 return attempts over the last two seasons, and averaged over 22 yards per kick return as well. His explosiveness on special teams should make him stick.
