The end of John Harbaugh’s tenure with the Baltimore Ravens came abruptly after the 2025 season, closing an 18-year run that included a Super Bowl title and consistent playoff contention. The Ravens finished 8-9 and missed the postseason, and the organization opted for a reset, parting ways with one of the league’s longest-tenured head coaches.
It didn’t take long for Harbaugh to land on his feet. Within days, the New York Giants identified him as their top target and moved quickly to secure him on a five-year deal, ushering in a new era after a stretch that saw the franchise go 7-27 over the previous two seasons.
Now, as he prepares for his first season in New York, Harbaugh received recognition off the field.
Miami University announced that the longtime coach will serve as its 187th Spring Commencement speaker on May 16, welcoming the alumnus back to campus in a ceremonial role during the NFL offseason.
”Miami University is proud to announce that John Harbaugh ’84, head coach of the New York Giants and member of the Cradle of Coaches, will serve as the 187th Spring Commencement speaker on May 16. We can’t wait to welcome him back to campus!” the school announced in a statement.

While Harbaugh receives this prestigious honor from his alma mater, expectations for his first season with the Giants are significant. The franchise is coming off a 4-13 campaign and has not reached the playoffs in three years. Ownership brought him in to stabilize the organization and build a competitive foundation around young quarterback Jaxson Dart.
The early signs of that vision are already visible in the offseason. The Giants revamped their coaching staff, hiring Matt Nagy as offensive coordinator and Dennard Wilson as defensive coordinator, both of whom bring experience in structured systems. Harbaugh also reunited with familiar faces, including Greg Roman in an offensive role.
Roster-wise, New York has been aggressive. The team has already added Tremaine Edmunds, Isaiah Likely, and Greg Newsome II, among others. With the likes of running back Cam Skattebo and wide receiver Malik Nabers expected to be fully healthy at the start of the season, Giants fans will be eager to see if Harbaugh can restore the franchise back to championship relevance in his first season.
