The NFL’s fraternity of tight ends have thrived in the offseason the past couple years with the success of Travis Kelce, Greg Olsen, and George Kittle’s “Tight End University”. Now, former star receiver Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson is looking to build a program like this for receivers with his “Wideout Workshop” which is underway this week. And an unlikely Titans receiver is in attendance.
11 receivers are together for the workout according to Johnson’s X page, and it’s a really eclectic mix of stars and scrubs. High-profile names such as the Bengals’ Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill, the Broncos’ Courtland Sutton, and the Seahawks’ Jaxon Smith-Njigba are there. Then there’s another tier of receivers, including the Browns’ Jerry Jeudy and Elijah Moore, the Packers’ Jayden Reed, free agent Robbie Anderson, the Commanders’ KJ Osborn, and finally, the Titans’ Xavier Restrepo.

Restrepo is the only rookie in the bunch, and might look a little out of place as a recently undrafted player fighting to make his first NFL roster this summer. But I can’t help but admire the initiative, hunger, and confidence it shows. Does he belong amongst this level of talent on paper? Nope. But who cares? He certainly doesn’t. He’s working his tail off with the very best on the planet doing it right now, and it’s all a part of his plan to prove the league wrong for letting such a successful college player slip through the cracks. Is he going to be a fun story to monitor this August or what?
Host Chad Johnson posted on X about the camp:
Today i get to the share the field, create art & exchange pleasantries with a group of NFL receivers i look up to & admire from afar even though I’m the elder statesman. #SlowFeetDontEat

And in an interview clip from SI’s Tyler Carmona, Johnson had this to say about his event:
“We don’t have anything like this. Everybody trains, everybody works, we all do it in separate areas. And I thought it would be fun and good for us to come together collectively as a group. Share knowledge, steal from one another, add things to our game, and be able to talk football. The craft in and of itself is more than just running routes and running around.”
