Unnamed Eagles Player Thought Team Might Trade Jalen Hurts

After leading the team to its second Super Bowl in franchise history in 2024, Philadelphia Eagles fans seemed to have turned on quarterback Jalen Hurts. The former Oklahoma and Alabama quarterback, whom the team drafted in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, threw for 3,224 yards with 25 touchdowns and six interceptions. He also rushed for 421 yards and eight scores.

Despite the impressive numbers, Hurts delivered a few uninspired performances down the stretch. In the team's second-to-last game of the season, Hurts completed just 48.2% of his passes in an ugly 13-12 win. He was given the final week of the regular season off, but continued to struggle in the team's Wild Card playoff loss to the San Francisco 49ers as he completed just 57.1% of his passes in the 23-19 loss.

Although he's one of the league's best running quarterbacks, it's no secret that the passing game is somewhat limited. In fact, many people around the league believe that star wide receiver A.J. Brown wants out of Philadelphia because of Hurts' limitations. With that being said, The Athletic's Dianna Russini did reveal that she was asked by a current Eagles player if the team would trade Hurts instead of Brown.

When appearing on Barstool's "Ryen Russillo Show," Russini revealed that she was asked directly by an Eagles player following the team's loss to the 49ers if they'd trade Hurts in order to keep Brown.

"I had a player on the Eagles ask me after they lost to San Francisco," Russini said. "And this was not A.J. (Brown) at all. 'Do you think we'll move on from A.J. or Jalen? I'm like What? What kind of question is that? What do you think? You don't move on from the quarterback.'

"But just the fact that was even a thought that maybe that's what they need to do," Russini continued. "I don't know."

Hurts and the Eagles agreed to a five-year contract worth $255 million in 2023, with over $170 million guaranteed.

Although Brown is a talented wide receiver and has been with the team while they won, it's clear he values his personal stats. Considering it's much easier to find receivers than quarterbacks, it appears the Eagles would move on from Brown rather than Hurts, despite the internal questions.
