Ben Johnson and the Chicago Bears’ Sunday afternoon did not go according to plan. They lost 31-7 at Lambeau Field to their rivals, the Green Bay Packers. An unwanted update also emerged after the game.

Chicago entered Week 5 with back-to-back wins following victories over the Philadelphia Eagles and New York Jets. The team achieved it without Caleb Williams, who continues to recover from a hamstring injury. Case Keenum and Tyson Bagent starred in Week 3 and 4, respectively, taking over the QB 1 job.

However, Bagent struggled on Sunday in his second consecutive start. He completed 12-of-21 passes for only 87 yards against two interceptions. He was benched in the fourth quarter for Keenum, but he also failed to change the game’s complexion. The 38-year-old quarterback finished with 11-of-19 completions for 108 yards and one interception.

A Ben Johnson development surfaces following Bears loss to Packers

The Week 5 rivalry showdown defeat dropped Johnson’s record to 2-6 versus NFC North opponents. It includes three straight losses to conference rivals and a -69 point differential.

Chicago hired Johnson in January 2025 following his emergence as one of the top candidates in the coaching cycle. He delivered success to the franchise in his first year in charge. The 40-year-old guided the Bears to an NFC North title last season with an 11-6 record and reached the Divisional Round. Their two defeats this campaign are from teams from the division, the Minnesota Vikings and Packers.

Next up for Johnson and Co. is a clash with the Atlanta Falcons next Sunday at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A home fixture follows in Week when they host the New England Patriots at Soldier Field. Their next NFC North opponent is the Detroit Lions in Week 10 before another meeting with Green Bay six weeks later. Chicago is 3-2 for the season and is still awaiting when Williams will return to action.
