GLENDALE – A scary collision occurred at Arizona Cardinals training camp practice on Thursday, with a tough collision between linebacker J.J. Russell and safety Kitan Crawford. The 7th-round safety was able to get up after the hard hit, but Russell stayed down with reports coming out that the 26-year-old linebacker was sent to a hospital. Head coach Jonathan Gannon spoke with the media the following day to give a positive update on Russell.

Gannon stated that Russell was “good” and has been put on concussion protocol, a lucky outcome for the third-year linebacker after being carted off the field. The team will remain cautious and patience with Russell as he deals with his head injury, but he remains in good spirit and has returned to the practice the facility.
Russell signed with the Cardinals in May on a one-year deal worth $1.1 million. In his first three seasons, he played with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and appeared in 30 games, starting four of them. In those appearances, Russell recorded 49 tackles and one sack. With Arizona not re-signing Kyzir White, Russell has the opportunity to play on a team with an increase amount of reps, but for the moment, that will be on hold.
