The Carolina Panthers made the necessary moves to get down to 53 players on Sunday.
There were some notable names, like Ja’seem Reed and Trevin Wallace, who didn’t make the cut, but overall, the projected depth chart didn’t change much. It will be interesting to see how the two newcomers, defensive lineman TeRah Edwards and linebacker Bobby Okereke, factor in though.
Now that we know what the roster looks like, let’s do a depth chart refresher as we await Week 1.
Quarterback: Bryce Young, Kenny Pickett, Haynes King
Running Back: Chuba Hubbard, Jonathon Brooks, A.J. Dillon
Wide Receiver: Tetairoa McMillan, Brycen Tremayne
Slot Receiver: Jalen Coker, John Metchie II
Wide Receiver: Xavier Legette, Jimmy Horn Jr.
Tight End: Tommy Tremble, Darren Waller, Mitchell Evans, Feleipe Franks, Ja’Tavion Sanders
Left Tackle: Rasheed Walker, Stone Forsythe
Left Guard: Damien Lewis, Chandler Zavala
Center: Luke Fortner, Sam Hecht
Right Guard: Robert Hunt, Brady Christensen
Right Tackle: Monroe Freeling, Albert Reese
There aren’t too many surprises here. The team did shockingly keep five tight ends, but that’s the position group that will likely be affected if the team makes any waiver claims. They still need to create a spot for Bobby Okereke, too.
The biggest story here is Haynes King making the team. Dave Canales never keeps three quarterbacks, so that shows just how impressive King was.
Defensive End: Derrick Brown, Aaron Hall
Nose Tackle: Bobby Brown III, TeRah Edwards
Defensive Tackle: Cam Jackson, Lee Hunter
OLB: Jaelan Phillips, Princely Umanmielen
MLB: Devin Lloyd, Jackson Kuwatch
MLB: Bobby Okereke (projected), Claudin Cherelus
OLB: Patrick Jones II, Trevis Gipson, Thomas Incoom
Cornerback: Mike Jackson, Akayleb Evans
Nickel: Chau Smith-Wade
Strong Safety: Tre’von Moehrig, Zakee Wheatley
Free Safety: Nick Scott, Lathan Ransom
Cornerback: Jaycee Horn, Will Lee III
The biggest surprise here was the release of Trevin Wallace. It’s not surprising outside help was brought in, but it was assumed Wallace would slide into a backup role. Instead, the Panthers are going thin at inside linebacker.
The secondary is another spot that could use a waiver claim, as only five corners and four safeties were kept initially.
Kicker: Ryan Fitzgerald
Punter: Sam Martin
Long Snapper: J.J. Jansen
Kick Returner: Jimmy Horn Jr.
Punt Returner: Jimmy Horn Jr.
The only change here is at returner, as Trevor Etienne will begin the season on injured reserve. As a result, Jimmy Horn Jr. should get a chance to handle all return duties for a few weeks.
