Former Florida Gators/Ohio State Buckeyes head coach Urban Meyer made his prediction this week for the Tennessee Vols' matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide that's set for Saturday night under the lights in Knoxville.
And Meyer, like many folks around the country, doesn't seem too confident in predicting the outcome of this game.
The three-time national championship winning coach initially picked Alabama to win the game before flipping his prediction to Tennessee.
“I’m going to go Alabama,” said Meyer on this week's The Triple Option. "Alabama is -- whoever has the ball last. I keep going back and forth with this. I'm going to pick -- Mark (Ingram, former Alabama RB and Meyer's co-host) is going to be pissed, but I’m going to go with Tennessee because it’s at home. It’s a draw.”
There's no doubt that this is a complete toss-up game. Alabama has looked great at times this season (like they did against Georgia) and they've looked not-so-great at times (like they did against Vanderbilt and South Carolina). The same goes for Tennessee, a program that started the season on an offensive tear before struggling the last few games.
Both teams, though, are 5-1. And both teams have national championship aspirations. So I'd expect to see both teams playing with a high effort level on Saturday night. This game is likely going to come down to whichever offense can operate the cleanest and the most efficient. And I don't think there's much we can glean from the past few weeks that's going to give us a hint as to how this game will go on Saturday night. All bets are off when these two teams get together.
