Aaron Glenn and the New York Jets reportedly shook up their special teams on Tuesday with a surprising cut.
According to The 33rd Team's Ari Meirov , the team decided to release former Pro Bowl punter and Super Bowl champion Thomas Morstead — who appeared in all 17 games for the club in each of the past two seasons and led the NFL in punts and punt yards in 2023.
It's not clear why the Jets chose to make the move but fans weren't exactly happy about it on X.

"Im sorry.. WHAT," a user replied. "this guy is a machine. One of the very few elite punters in the nfl. Very confusing to me. I get the age but he still got it.
"One of the most likable Jets in my lifetime. Thank you @thomasmorstead!" another exclaimed.
"#Jets MVP for the past two years. Whoever the new punter is has some large shoes to fill," a fan said.
"Literally our MVP of the last 2 seasons wtf r the #Jets doing," another commented.
"Absolutely ridiculous. This is why we continue to be, and will always be, a joke," another fan tagged the team.
"Release Greg z while you're at it," another user advised.
"Tank is on !!!!!" another person announced.
"[Expletive] you @nyjets."
Morstead has been in the NFL for 16 years — most of which came as a member of the New Orleans Saints. But he also spent time with the Falcons and Dolphins before returning to New York.
In a corresponding move, the Jets signed punter Kai Kroeger who played the last five seasons at South Carolina before going undrafted last month.
