Veteran NFL Quarterback Announces His Retirement at 31

Former West Virginia quarterback Will Grier is officially retiring from the NFL.

The Carolina Panthers placed Grier on the reserve/retired list this Wednesday afternoon, much to the surprise of NFL fans. The 31-year-old quarterback was gearing up for his second stint with the Panthers (they selected him in the third round of the 2019 draft). He previously had stints with the Dallas Cowboys, Cincinnati Bengals, New Erngland Patriots, Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles.

Despite bouncing around the NFL over the past few years, Grier only made two starts at the pro level. He completed 53.8% of his passes for 228 yards with four interceptions.

Grier has not yet released a statement on his retirement. That could be coming soon though.

As for the Panthers, they'll now lean on Kenny Pickett and Haynes King as their backup options. Bryce Young is the unquestioned starter heading into Week 1.

Grier had an epic run at WVU.

Although his time in the NFL didn't exactly live up to the hype, Grier had an exceptional run at West Virginia. After winning Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year in 2017, he earned All-Big 12 honors in 2018.

Grier, who started his college career at Florida, had 7,354 passing yards, 71 touchdowns and 20 interceptions for the Mountaineers.

We wish Grier all the best in the next chapter of his career.
