Veteran QB Mitchell Trubisky returns to Bills as Josh Allen’s backup after Steelers stint ends

Following his stats and in search of a backup quarterback, the Bills signed him. He is expected to do better with the newly appointed Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady. Since Trubisky has already played for the Bills and the quarterback is well aware of the atmosphere, he is expected to do good in the coming season.

The signing came on the day when the Bills released several senior players to save around $36 million in cap space. Team’s veteran edge-rusher Von Miller has also agreed to contract restructuring.

Mitchell Trubisky had a tumultuous career

Since 2017, Trubisky has found himself in the middle of transfers to multiple teams. He was originally drafted by the Chicago Bears as the No. 2 overall pick but was later moved on to the Bills squad in 2021. He backed Josh Allen up in 2021. He played six games and threw 43 yards.

The Steelers targeted him for the next season. The quarterback was signed by the Pittsburgh team for a $14 million deal for two years. It secured an annual bonus worth $27 million. However, his time at the Steelers did not go as well as it was speculated.

The quarterback had a 2-5 starting record in his two seasons with the Steelers, registering 1,884 yards with 8 touchdowns against 10 interceptions. He was benched soon and the rookie QB Kenny Pickett took his place. However, he got the chance to play again as Pickett got injured.

It is to be seen how his time at the Bills will go. He has signed a good deal and now it is high time to pay back to the team.
