Veteran RB Adrian Peterson wants to play in NFL until he's 40 years old

Veteran running back Adrian Peterson has his sights set on breaking Emmitt Smith's rushing record. The Texas native has 14,820 career rushing yards and Smith's record is 18,355 yards.

The 35-year-old told TMZ Sports that he wants to continue playing in the NFL until he's 40-years-old.

"I'm going to keep playing, trying to chase the championship," Peterson says, "and, God's willing, within the process of doing that, I'm able to catch Emmitt and pass him."

Peterson will turn 36-years-old next month and isn't sure where he'll play in 2021. He spent the 2020 season with the Detroit Lions, rushing for 604 yards and seven touchdowns.

The seven-time Pro Bowler has also played for the Minnesota Vikings, Washington Football Team, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints. He said earlier this month that he'd be interested in playing with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers next season.
