The Minnesota Vikings were able to ease some roster concerns through free agency and the draft, but there is still work to do. Especially at the cornerback position.
So it makes sense that the team would bring in former Detroit Lions cornerback, Jerry Jacobs, for a visit to see if there is a world in which the parties can team up.

Jacobs recorded 55 tackles, three interceptions and eight passes defended for Detroit last season.
And when considering the team released veteran cornerback Joejuan Williams shortly after Fowler's report - the writing is pretty much on the wall when it comes to the Vikings and Jacobs.

Jacobs is a former undrafted free agent that worked his way onto the Lions roster back in 2021. He's started 29 games over three seasons, since, and has recorded four interceptions, 23 pass deflections, 1.0 sack, 131 total tackles, nine tackles for loss and three quarterback hits while playing more than 1,800 snaps.
It remains to be seen if Jacobs starts on the outside, but there's certainly an opportunity for him to win one of the jobs. Especially if Byron Murphy plays more on the inside like Brian Flores mentioned a while back. Right now, it's Mekhi Blackmon, Akayleb Evans, Khyree Jackson, and Shaq Griffin leading the battle for the spot opposite Murphy and they're the leaders for the other perimeter spot if Murphy moves inside.
The most encouraging aspect of this whole potential situation, though, is Jacobs, at worst represents good depth at cornerback, which is something the Vikings currently don't have a lot of.
And to be fair, that may be best for Jacobs: a depth role. As A to Z Sports Detroit's Mike Payton notes, things went awry when he was handed a full-time starting job in 2023:
Jacobs was one of Lions GM Brad Holmes's early finds in 2021. He came in as an undrafted rookie and worked his way onto the team and played 500+ defensive snaps in his first year. 2022 saw that time increase and he looked even better.
2023 was supposed to be the year that he took over as a full-time starter. That happened, but it did not go well. He allowed 47 receptions for 602 yards and seven touchdowns by Week 14. He was benched after that and only played special teams. He never played corner again except for one snap in Week 17. He got hurt on that snap and his season ended. - Mike Payton, A to Z Sports Detroit
The Vikings' quarterback issues eventually caught up to them and they were a big reason why the team missed the playoffs. The defense, mainly the secondary, was almost an equal, however. Granted, injuries played a big role in the secondary woes, but again, that's why the idea of the Jacobs signing makes sense.
The dude is young and has shown he can play in the NFL. He can come in and push the others for a starting spot and provide adequate depth and special teams play if he doesn't win the gig. He won't be expensive, either, as he's not a vested veteran, yet.
Sounds like an all-around win, to me.
