The Minnesota Vikings sit at 4-4 overall, but in last place of the NFC North. They hold this mark despite fielding the league's eighth-best passing defense.

Yet Minnesota hosted a potential newcomer on Friday -- one who hails from a legendary NFL household.

Who Visited the Vikings?

Minnesota hosted Asante Samuel Jr. inside its facility, with Kevin Seifert of ESPN confirming the visit Friday.

Samuel Jr., the son of the former New England Patriots star cornerback, is still searching for an NFL home following his release from the Los Angeles Chargers.

Seifert even added some quotes from head coach Kevin O'Connell. Turns out O'Connell has admiration for the free agent CB.

"I've always liked Asante," Seifert said. "I know he's taking a lot of visits. I think the big thing for him, specifically just in regards to where he's been at from a health standpoint, is that I think he wants to make sure that everyone totally understands where he's at health wise. I know he wants to play football."

Why Hasn't Teams Signed Asante Samuel Jr.?

Samuel is attempting to comeback from spinal fusion surgery from April 2025.

He's remained on the free agent block post NFL trade deadline period. O'Connell has trust in his circle with evaluating Samuel.

"Our personnel guys are doing the best they can to always evaluate anything that would be a good move for the Minnesota Vikings to help us win," O'Connell said via Seifert.

Minnesota has one notable injury in the CB room -- Jeff Okudah is out with a concussion against the Baltimore Ravens. There's other secondary injuries too with safeties Josh Metellus (foot) and Harrison Smith (non-football related injury) listed on Friday's injury report.

Metellus leads the way with two interceptions. Isaiah Rodgers is the only CB with a pick for the 2025 Vikings.

Samuel Jr. can instantly bolster the depth amid Okudah's situation. Friday's visit indicates his comeback is imminent.
