The Minnesota Vikings have been viewed as the No. 1 landing spot for Aaron Rodgers in free agency. That is, of course, if they're interested in his services.
Over the weekend, CBS Sports insider Jonathan Jones said the Vikings would only view Rodgers as a short-term solution at quarterback since they have J.J. McCarthy waiting in the wings. But even then, Minnesota never seemed like the favorite to sign the four-time MVP.
It was later reported by Michael Silver, Dianna Russini and Alec Lewis that Rodgers could turn down the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants and opt for retirement instead.
"Aaron Rodgers has been targeted by the Steelers and Giants but has essentially put both teams on hold while he waits for clarity regarding the Vikings' situation," their report for The Athletic states.
Well, it appears the Vikings have given Rodgers and the rest of the NFL world some clarity this Wednesday.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Vikings won't pursue Rodgers in free agency. They're currently committed to McCarthy as their starter for the 2025 season.
"The #Vikings have rejected multiple trade calls on J.J. McCarthy, telling other teams they’re moving forward with him as their quarterback, sources say. The team plans to add a veteran," Pelissero said. "But they’re not pursuing Aaron Rodgers at this time. McCarthy now enters the offseason as QB1."
This isn't what Rodgers wanted to hear, but at least the Vikings gave him an answer now as opposed to a later date in the offseason.
Now that Minnesota is out of the picture, Rodgers must decide between retirement and playing for the Steelers or Giants.
