Justin Jefferson and the Minnesota Vikings looked to bounce back from their Week 7 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles as they visited Justin Herbert and the Los Angeles Chargers for Week 8’s edition of “Thursday Night Football.” Second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy missed his fourth straight game with a high ankle sprain, leaving Jefferson to work with backup Carson Wentz again.
Coming into the game, Jefferson had recorded 529 catches for 7,960 yards and 41 touchdowns during his six-year career with the Vikings. With 5:42 remaining in the second quarter, Wentz hit Jefferson for a three-yard gain, giving him four catches for 40 yards on the night. This also marked the former LSU Tigers wideout's 8,000th receiving yard of his career.
In doing so, Jefferson became just the third player in NFL history to record 8,000 or more receiving yards within his first six seasons, joining Hall of Famers Torry Holt and Randy Moss.
Holt recorded 517 catches for 8,156 yards and 45 touchdowns during his first six seasons with the St. Louis Rams, while Moss set the benchmark with 525 receptions for 8,375 yards and 77 touchdowns in his first six years with Minnesota. Jefferson also recently surpassed receiving legends Jerry Rice (7,866) and Calvin Johnson (7,836) for the most receiving yards ever by a player in his first six seasons.
"@JJettas2 joined Pro Football Hall of Famer Randy Moss (8,375) and Torry Holt (8,156) as the only players with at least 8,000 receiving yards in their first six seasons in NFL history," Vikings Communications wrote on X.
