Vikings' Patrick Peterson: 'I don't have any beef with Kyler Murray'

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Patrick Peterson has reached out to Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray regarding a spat Peterson recently started.

"I don't have any beef with Kyler Murray," Peterson insisted on Thursday, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN.

Peterson, who previously played alongside Murray with the Cardinals in 2019 and 2020, initially generated headlines when he said on his "All Things Covered" podcast that "Kyler Murray don't care about nobody but Kyler Murray, that's just the matter of fact."

Murray took to Twitter to offer a not-safe-for-work response to his former teammate.

"This isn’t true," Murray wrote.

"What I meant by my comment was when you're a franchise quarterback you have to carry yourself a certain way," Peterson continued on Thursday. "So if you're having bad body language, pouting, moping on the sideline, what type of energy do you think feeds off to your teammates?

"That's what I meant about Kyler. He cares about himself because he's not putting the team first. When you make a bad throw, and you come off to the sideline, you're dropping your shoulders, how do you think the defense feels? If our starting quarterback don't have any energy, no fire, that we can win this game, how can we? That's what I meant about Kyler caring about Kyler. I didn't mean any disrespect, in any fashion or form. And I might not be his mentor, but these are the things, tips, that can help him be a better football player in the long run."

Peterson added he obtained Murray's number from a former teammate and texted the signal-caller, who hadn't yet responded to that message at the time Peterson offered his comments. The veteran who was selected by Arizona in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft noted he hopes to speak with Murray, in part because the quarterback's "mannerisms are alarming."

"It's no secret," Peterson said of Murray. "Everybody sees it. You see it every time they're on television. You see Kyler Murray pouting. Cursing out the head coach, calling out the offensive scheme. I didn't say that. He did."

Peterson was referencing how Murray publicly criticized the team's scheme while speaking with reporters shortly after the Cardinals fell to the Los Angeles Chargers this past Sunday.

The 4-8 Cardinals are in their bye week, while the 9-2 Vikings host the 7-4 New York Jets this coming Sunday.
